Imo State Government House has been blocked by pensioners over the non-payment of their pensions.

The protest has caused a massive traffic gridlock as vehicular movements have been on stand still along the major roads within the state capital.

The chairman of the committee on pensions intervention of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), Mr Ohanaeje Ike, who spoke to journalists, said that despite all appeals, the State Governor, Hope Uzodinmma has failed to honor is promise to pay them.

Speaking further, Ohanaeje accused the Imo State governor of insensitivity, adding that about 42 of the union’s members have died between the month of February and May as a result of hardship and neglect by the government.
