EPL: Mikel Arteta gives positive update on Aubameyang‘s contract situation

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has said that he is ‘pretty positive’ that the club striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will sign a new contract.

The 30-year-old is in the final 12 months of his contract and talks over an extension have so far been unsucessful.

Recall that the Gabon international dropped the biggest hint yet over his future in a wide-ranging interview with Telefoot this week.

Arteta has acknowledge the interview by admiring the Gunners need to show the Gabon international they can win trophies but the Spaniard ended his response with a positive update on the situation.

“It is our responsibly to make him feel that this is the next step in his career,” Arteta told reporters in today’s press conference ahead of Wednesday’s game against Manchester City.

“In order to do that he needs to feel valued and feel [that he] belongs and feel that we want him.

“He really needs to believe we can take this club forward and that he’s going to be a key player in that.

“At the moment I am extmrely happy with how he has been performing and behaving. We have a really good relationship, we can discuss face-to-face a lot of things.

“I think he’s very happy at the club. We have many discussions with Pierre, his family and agent. I am pretty positive that we can find the right agreement for all parties.”
