EPL: Solskjaer promotes Mengi to first team

Manchester United teenager Teden Mengi has been promoted to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first team on Monday.

Despite being available during United’s  2-1 defeat to Astana in the Europa League in 2019, 18-year-old is yet to make his debut for the club.

The defender captained the side’s U16s and was promoted into the club’s U23s at the age of 17, making his name as a no-nonsense centre-back.

The Red Devils manager has settled on a partnership of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof this term and Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe have provided backup.

However, with the need for squad depth, Solskjaer is keen to provide a pathway into the first team for academy graduates and Mengi was spotted in first team training on Monday.
