The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), has given an update on accommodation and welfare of the The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members ahead of Saturday’s presidential elections.
Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, the chairman of the commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu expressed sadness over the hardship corps members faced last week.
Yakubu, however, said that INEC has collaborated with NYSC and security agencies to provide security and more mattresses for all corps members for the election process.
“The commission is unhappy with the images of some of them sleeping rough at the registration areas,” Yakubu said
“We have been in discussion with the director general of the NYSC on how the situation will be amended, we have made an arrangement with the NYSC to move the matrasses used in their orientation camp nationwide, expect Borno State where youth corps members are not deployed to ease their hardship.
“As usual, the commission will provide generators, water and toiletries in the RAC centres. we have also liaised with the security agencies for adequate protection.”
