Resident Doctors suspends strike

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced the suspension of its strike with effect from Monday, June 22, 2020.

NARD made the announcement in a communique read to journalists by its President, Dr. Aliyu Sokomba, on Sunday in Abuja after its National Executive Council meeting attended by over 300 members.

The organization said the decision was made in order to enable the government have time to fulfill outstanding demands following an appeal by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and other stakeholders.

NARD also confirmed the provision of personal protective equipment (PPEs) in some hospitals  by government and there will still be needs for sustained supplies.

According to NARD, that the Medical Residency Training Funding has been included in the revised 2020 budget through the intervention of Femi Gbajabiamila and will be implemented as soon as the budget is assented to the president.

However, NARD gave the Federal Government four weeks to fulfill its promises.
