Rivers university student shot dead by alleged cultist

A male student said to be in 400 level at the Faculty of Management Science, Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, was shot dead on Thursday by a lone gunman suspected to be a cultist.

Sources in the school said the assailant known as ‘Peruzi ‘, suspected to be a member of a cult group, known as Vikings, was later apprehended by the school security officers and policemen attached to Nkpolu Divisional Police headquarters, Mile 3 Diobu.

The incident caused pandemonium in the university as students scampered for safety.

Our correspondent observed that security operatives were patrolling the school premises to forestall the breakdown of law and order.

Rivers State Police Command’s Public Relation Officer, SP Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident but said details were sketchy.
