Robbers storm bank, kill one, cart away cash in Bayelsa



Gunmen on Friday, storm a new generation bank in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital which was suspected to an armed robbery attack.

The robbery attack led to the dead of a customer, identified as Mr Emmanuel Omomo and carted away with cash he withdrew from the bank according to a report from Daily Trust.

 According to an eyewitness report from Daily Trust, the middle aged man was leaving the bank with a bag suspected to contain money, when the masked gunmen alighted from a car and started shooting sporadically.

 The victim who had already entered a waiting tricycle on sighting the gunmen alighted and ran inside the nearby bush, where the gunmen shot him and made away with the money.

Security men attached to the bank and nearby banks shots at the armed robbers but could not hit target due crowd in the bank premise according to the report.

 However, the victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, where he was confirmed death.

The police spokesman in Bayelsa State, SP Asinim Butswat confirmed the incident, saying the command had launched a manhunt for the gunmen.

He said: “The unfortunate incident occurred on 3 July, 2020 at about 10:00 hours, at the premises of a new generation bank in Yenagoa when a customer was accosted by unknown gunmen after he withdrew money.

“The armed robbers who came in a black Toyota Camry car accosted the customer one Emmanuel Omomo ‘m’ when he came out of the Bank after making the withdrawals, shot him, collected all the money in his possession and zoomed off.

“The victim was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa where he was confirmed dead. Investigation is ongoing,”
