Yobe high court convicts fraudster to 6 years imprisonment



A Damaturu based youth, Mohammed Baba Isah has been sentenced to one year, two years and three years imprisonment respectively according to the three count charge labeled against him bothering on misappropriation and forgery by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The sentence was delivered by Justice Ibrahim Jauro of Yobe State High Court 3 in Damaturu, yesterday Tuesday.

The accused person, Mohammed Baba Isah had on last Tuesday pleaded guilty of the offences labelled against him by the EFCC before the court.  Isah had by the commission of these offences sentenced to one year imprisonment or a fine of N100,000 for the first count charge, two years imprisonment with no fine for the second count charge and  three years imprisonment or a fine of N300, 000 for the third count charge.

Justice Ibrahim Jauro said, Mohammed Baba Isah will serve the three sentences concurrently or pay the fine of N100,000 and N300,000 being an alternative to serving the jail terms for the first and third count charge.

The convict will however, serve the two years imprisonment with no fine alternative for the second count charge.

Recalled that, the first count charge was placed on him for fraudulently converting the sum of about N17 million out of the N25 million invested into of MBC Synergy Concept Limited, a company he claimed to be the manager, an act that contravened sections 308 and 309 of the Yobe State Penal code.

The second and third count charge are based on forging some documents and stamps of First Bank Plc and that of Access Bank Plc which contravened sections 366 and 364 of the state penal code laws.   The judgement was expected to serve as deterrent to others who may contemplate committing same crime.
